Since I have vacation at the moment I have a lot of time for doing things I normally don’t have any time for. So lately I saw the cult movie ‘Some like it hot’ (1959) with Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and the wonderful Marilyn Monroe. And I got so inspired by the beautiful style of clothing that I decided to dedicate a post to the fashion of the 50s.
The 1950s was the decade of glamour and brought the feminity back into women’s wardrobes after the war.
Christion Dior was the designer of the fifties fashion and his narrow waistline and wide skirt made the girls look feminine once more. His only competition was the new Chanel suit. It was a simple design, featuring a just below the knee skirt and a collarless jacket finished with gold braid, but it soon got the most copied style and became the standard formal look for women at events.
But not only Designer effected the fashion scene, also the big Hollywood fashion icones like Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn influenced what a lady wanted to buy for her closet.
And allthough we are living over 50 years later, it is really easy to incorporate some 50s feeling into your wardrobe and embrace the femal shape and elegance!
Here are some basic tipps of how to create your own fifties style 🙂
Clothes & Accesoires: dresses in ‘A’ line – also with polka dots, wrist-length gloves, dress coats, stiletto heels, box cut jackets, knit sweaters, cricle skirt, elegant hand bags, long scarf, pearl jewelry, luxurious lingerie
Hair: the most famous hair colour is a blonde tone and you have to wear it in a short, curly way
Make Up: intense eyebrows, eye-liner, mascara, red lipstick, natural make up, pink blush

When the Rashiwala brothers came to Singapore in 1925, they begun a minimal company, C. Rashiwala Bros, trading raw jewels with local merchants and providing jewellery to affluent local colonists. They commenced what’s now among the region’s most famous company involving semi-precious gems and jewelry, additionally C. Rashiwala Bros is South East Asia’s first and most reliable marketers of Swarovski products. This company persisted right up until 1942 when WW2 started.
